Red Tents & My Teen Daughters

Including my teens in pagan practices has been both fun and challenging. I moved to Colorado 4 years ago and it took me 2 years to really begin attracting my tribe. I was invited to a Red Tent women’s circle by a new friend and decided to go try it out. (I am an introvert and recluse except in certain situations.) I’ve been solitary my whole life in regards to my spirituality and it’s expression (excepting various online discussion groups), so this new thing, this welcoming into the sacred and safe space a Red Tent is to represent was very appealing to me. I also have two teen daughters and decided it was very important to include them in this new endeavor. I believed it would enrich them as much as myself. The space provided by my friend was warm and welcoming and really really deep. I brought my two Read More

My Kid Taught Himself How to Read

My unschooled 7 year old has most definitely taught himself to read over the last year. Leaps and bounds have been made just over the last 4 months!  I take no credit. It was all him. I was as hands off as possible for this process as I wanted to prove my well researched position (there is much scientific evidence) that at around 7 years old kids’ brain development just makes it more natural to read. I realize there is a bell curve in regards to learning anything, reading included. I began to read books when I was four. Others may need specialized instruction because of brain wiring and may develop later than average bell curve kids. There were a few times along the way that myself or my husband would get antsy about whether this was going to work out exactly the way I thought it would (again, as Read More

How I Discovered Conscious Parenting. A Short History.

I didn’t always know about conscious parenting. When I started my own family I had What to Expect When You’re Expecting and What to Expect the Toddler Years. Pretty mainstream modern parenting stuff. I do like to study up and research, so those books were good enough for all the little details my most holy virgo-ness needed to feel adequately prepared for taking care of littles. Thankfully my natural instincts outweighed some of the advice given by mainstream parenting practices. Unfortunately my ignorance led me into some parenting techniques which were over controlling and downright traumatic in retrospect. Out of my five children it’s the middle three who grew up in the flux of my transition from mainstream parenting to conscious parenting. All born within 3.5 years of each other. They are teens now, but because of the new insights I gained in researching natural and attachment parenting for my Read More

Babywearing Is Jedi

With baby snuggled close mama can hear him breathe, feel his warmth and know he is alright all the time. With mama snuggled close baby can hear her breathe, feel her warmth and know that near her heartbeat he is alright all the time. Keep your baby close. Babies who are worn by their mother’s develop quicker and are more emotionally satisfied than babies who are relegated to a playpen or stroller. In modern days it’s the norm to separate from everything. Including our babies. But it has not been the norm for hundred’s of thousand’s of years of human evolution. Pushing baby away is not normal from nature’s perspective, nor is it Jedi. Think electromagnetic fields and the Force. Keep the LIFE FORCE flowing. Life Force = Love. Baby wearing is so very JEDI.
